Its wedding season!

If you’re anything like us young people at Idris (mid 20s to early 40s is ‘young people’, thank you very much), you’ll be spending much of your summers attending weddings.

Sometimes it's close mates, in which case you don’t really mind forking out over a grand for a stag/hen, new clothes that you won’t wear again and then travel/accommodation to the arse end of nowhere to meet their spouse’s aunt and get hammered whilst singing Mr Brightside. Other times it's a work acquaintance, and you really do start questioning whether that money could have been better spent on a week in the Costa Brava.

For us at Idris, our dear Kane is getting married to his much better half Becca this week, and they’ve done us the ultimate kindness of deciding to hold the ceremony in South London. As such, our Finsbury Park store is closing early this Friday and will not be opening on Saturday as we all recover, but in preparation for this, we thought we’d share a few grooming tips from our lads in store for any of you attending weddings, or indeed celebrating your own, this summer.

Our head barber/manager/top boy Matt has suggested booking in a week or so before your wedding for your haircut, to give it time to ‘settle’ a bit and look a bit more natural before the big day. Especially if you’re going for something new on top or any kind of restyle. The temptation of course, especially with shorter cuts, is to have it as fresh and crispy as possible for the photos, and with skin fades there’s some merit to that thinking, but as always, have a good chat with one of our barbers with plenty of time ahead of the date, and they can plan in advance when to book you in to get you looking your best for your bride or groom.

Another recommendation is to get your wedding trim done with friends. On a good few occasions over the years we’ve taken bookings of up to 6 people, and with enough time in advance we can make sure you’re all booked in back to back, or we can even keep the shop open a little bit later, to allow you and your pals to get prepped together ahead of your big day. Be it hair cuts, beard trims or even wet shows, we can get a few drinks in for you and your party and make your pre-wedding grooming feel like another part of the celebration.

Finally, especially in the kind of heat we have this week, don’t aim for styles that are too high maintenance. Kane’s going to have scorching sunshine and thus the factor 30 will be packed to keep his beautiful dome from burning in the August sun, but British summer time has a mind of its own, and be ready for rain, wind or heat, don’t spend your wedding day worrying about the elements ruining your hairstyle. Go for something easy to maintain and allow yourself to enjoy your day.

We promise to get lots of photos from Kane’s do to show you all in shop next week, and if you’re celebrating a friend’s wedding or indeed your own this summer, we hope the day brings all the magic you’d hope. And if it is a work colleague getting married in the furthest corner of cornwall and you’re spending your summer budget on trains and hotels, chin up, there’s always Benidorm for next summer.

Lastly, enjoy the day however you do it.
