Football has come home, or at least, after about 3 weeks away, it’s returned to our televisions.
Between the two shops football is a bit of an ever present, Finsbury park can often feel like its fuelled by football chat and testosterone... when Kane gets talking, and while the Tottenham shop is a bit more chilled, Simon can often be spotted wearing a vintage Arsenal kit behind enemy lines, and our bar Unit 3 has hosted many watchalongs, from North London derbys, to World cup games, even lockdown events where we bought our own kegs and peanuts to watch the football with the faux crowd noise turned up.
And even if you’re not a fan of the beautiful game, it’s influence on modern style, be that in barbering or indeed fashion, are undeniable, and hopefully are only becoming more accessible. It’s not a lads game anymore, football’s for everyone, as is Idris, so we hope that all of you will enjoy what we’ve picked out below - some shirts for the new season that tickle our fancy, and some trims that may well inspire the next conversation you have with one of our barbers.
First of-
Sunderland Third Kit
Last weekend really was the Kane Tuckwell dream come true, he married his soul mate in Becca but, and perhaps more importantly, Sunderland beat West Ham three nil upon their return to the premier league. They lined up last week in their traditionally striped home shirt but this below, their all black third kit, really caught our eye. Their crest swapped for the black cat badge and the cats eyes on the reverse of the collar make this a really tidy little number, and don’t worry, if and when Sunderland inevitably start losing games, most of your mates won’t
Arsenal Third Kit
Idris share holder and writer of this article Jacob Hawley couldn’t miss an opportunity to gloat about how good Eberiche Eze is going to look in Arsenal’s new white third kit. The white makes it a risky option if, like many of us, you’re juggling small kids, but if you’re heading down the pub and not planning on drinking red wine, there won’t be many looking smarter than you would in this.
Brighton Away Kit
This one is a bit of a rogue shout by Matt but whilst most of the Adidas and Nike kits tend to look the same nowadays, this Brighton shirt feels like a throw back to the Joga Bonito heyday of 2006 when Nike kept it simple and bold. The colours on this are begging for an outing whilst the weather’s still warm and you know what, the shirt might even be strong enough that you catch some of us rooting for Brighton as neutrals this year. Think Parma Violets.
And if football shirts are your bag, ask in store and we may be able to find you one of our Idris football shirts from 2021. Now, onto some hairstyles.
Top Trims
The Richard Rios (or perhaps the Tanaka)
We love mulletts, we see alot of them, but this is one to talk about and both Richard Rios and Leeds United’s Tanaka have embraced a modern twist of this cut by tapering in the sides of the hair real nice and low and taking it right down to skin, great contrast and if your lucky enough to have Rios' texture its an absolute belter of a trim.
Longer cuts with an undercut, a la Grealish or Califiori
A really nice way to freshen up a longer cut is to replicate what both Jack Grealish and Riccardo Califiori have come into the season with, a slight undercut or taper beneath their long hair. It gives a smarter, more distinct look when the hairs worn up, but can be hidden when worn down to allow a messier beach style. And one more time, how nice is that white Arsenal kit?!
If your looking to change up your style or just keep what you have and know whats on offer as it grows out feel free to swing by one of the shops or shoot us an email, We cant all be Califiori or even Jack Grealish, but a good trim from the barber is a decent start.
