After last week’s blog post on Wolf Cuts (https://tinyurl.com/zdtsns4n) felt dangerously close to being a professional piece of content befitting of a barber shop, this week we’re veering back into party content, as we speak to one of our Finsbury Park barbers, Tino, after he spent the last ten days at a Burn festival in Sweden.
Tino’s made good use of the company’s fairly laid back approach to annual leave over the last few years, multiple trips to Ibiza and a month in New Zealand were all enjoyed adequately, but this summer he’s swapped the sun loungers and scenic views for something a bit different - Borderlands Festival in Sweden.
Borderlands is a ‘burn festival’ following the principles of Burning Man - its inclusive, its radical, its important that you ‘leave no trace’ and don’t make a mess, there’s no money and its all about ‘gifting’, and crucially for Tino, our little moustachio’ed perv, a lot of people just walk around naked all the time.
Another benefit for young Tino is the festivals ethos on ‘gifting’. You don’t buy things at these kind of do’s, you do something for something and they return the favour, and fortunately for T, as many of you know, his scissor work is a gift that many of you believe is worth at least 32 English pounds.
So Tino spent a week at the festival pottering around in various states of undress, exchanging short back and sides (lets be honest, it was likely a lot of mullets) for all sorts of things, tattoos, food, booze, and other more elicit things that whilst I’m not going to write about on our web page, you’re certainly more than welcome to ask him about next time you see him in store.
As with any festival there’s music and camping but with Borderlands one of the real perks is the saunas. A variety of natural and non natural spots to try and when it all got a bit too hot and steamy (not like that you filthy minded scruffs), there are beautiful lakes to dive into to cool down. And as the sun sets, the sound stages run into the early hours, until the final day, upon which a giant effigy is erected (steady with those filthy minds again) in the middle of the site and everyone strips down to run around it fully naked.
Overall, as I spoke to Tino, he described it as a ‘mind blowing experience’. To me it sounds like he’s joined a cult. Each to their own I suppose, I’m a father of two, an all inclusive in the algarve with a kids disco and a free bar is enough to blow my mind. If you’re intrigued by slightly more culty, naked, scandy experiences, get yourself booked in with Tino in Finsbury to get the full story.
